WELCOME CLASSMATES!
Following is a "Post-Reunion" note from Kay:
We hope
those of you who were able to attend the reunion returned home safe and sound!
Also hope you enjoyed the reunion activities as much as we did! What an incredible
time! Lots of friendships re-established, lots of conversation, lots of food
and lots of laughs. Thank you to those of you attending; we hope those of
you unable to attend will be able to come to one of the monthly get-togethers
or the next annual reunion.
There is some bad news however: LOTTERY TICKETS,
we didn't even win 1 free ticket!!!! I had the clerk run them through and
every one said: Sorry - not a winner!!! Oh well, we tried and I hope you all
enjoyed taking the chance even though it didn't work out!
Our reunion was wonderful. The weather could not have been better. It
wasn't too hot!!!! The event Friday night at Roaring Rapids was filled
to capacity. We didn't get a count but we think the attendance must have been
around 250 people. The Willamette River adjoins Roaring Rapids and provided
a spectacular view.
Saturday night at the Springfield Country Club was first class. Again the
weather cooperated, the food was wonderful, the setting was awesome and the
company was fabulous! Our "Surprise Guests" were Verla Tabor and
Carol Fiser doing a pantomime of a Patsy Cline song, "She's got you".
They were hysterical and even received a standing ovation! What great sports
they were to entertain us! Lloyd Long proved to be a capable and very humorous
Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Dan Brown gave the invocation and our
Class President, Steve Clark, spoke and told us that he thought his tenure
of Class President was over 50 years ago! Jay Ellison honored the military
veterans of our class. A moment of silent prayer was held for our deceased
classmates. Karen Pilaczynski, led us in singing our Alma
Mater as we waved our royal blue pom-poms. It was a magical night and
a huge thank you to the 50th Class of 1960 Reunion Committee for all their
incredibly hard work.
Our "Donation Box" did have some donations but due to its location
a lot of people missed it. If you would like to donate to our fund which helps
with postage for mailing, website costs, etc. please send your check payable
to "SHS Class of 1960" to: Arlene Grace Burge, 352 Banton Ave.,
Eugene, OR 97404. This year the costs to classmates for the dinner on Saturday
night at the Country Club, T-Shirts & Reunion Books were all at cost.
We did not ask for any additional funds so the donations help with the minimal
costs we incur from time to time. Please do not feel an obligation to make
a donation however!
A reminder that a monthly get-together will
be held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month beginning on September 8, 2010
at Papas Pizza at 1577 Coburg Rd., Eugene from 11:30 to 2:00 in the South
Room.
An annual reunion will be held every year from
now on - the third Saturday in August at Roaring Rapids beginning at 5:00
p.m. It will be held outside in the covered area next to the river and is
a no-host event.
We hope you can join us at one of the upcoming events.
